Lady Gaga Updates This 'Born This Way' Lyric in New Orville Peck Cover - Lady Gaga Lyrics

Singer Lady Gaga

In honor of the ten-year anniversary of her critically acclaimed album Born This Way, Lady Gaga is releasing a deluxe edition featuring covers of her songs by LGBTQ+ artists.

Last week, we were blessed with "Judas" by Big Freedia. This week, Orville Peck has released his version of the iconic LGBTQ+ anthem "Born This Way."

"My official country road cover of ‘Born This Way’ for the 10th anniversary edition of Born This Way Reimagined is out now!" Peck wrote on Instagram. "I am so honoured and excited to be a part of the iconic legacy of this song and album. Thank you @ladygaga for askin me and Happy Pride y’all !!"

The song is a powerful country rendition of the groundbreaking track, but we couldn't help but notice one change in particular. In the original bridge, Gaga included some lyrics that didn't age too well. She sings, "No matter black, white or beige/Chola or orient made/I'm on the right track baby/I was born to be brave."

The problematic lyrics have been a source of endless jokes for some, cringe and discomfort for others. In his version, Peck updated "Chola or orient made" to "Asian or Latinx made." Some would argue that lyric is a bit cringe as well, but certainly a suitable update for 2021.

The upcoming album will feature "the 14 original songs from the Born This Way album from 2011 in new packaging," according to the press release, "along with six reimagined versions of songs from the album created by artists representing and advocating for the LGBTQIA+ community that will be revealed over the next few weeks."

We can't wait to see who's next!
